The typical advice sounds compelling:

  3. Automate complex strategic decisions to move faster than competitors

  4. Trust AI insights over human experience and industry knowledge

  5. Scale decision-making by removing humans from the loop entirely

This conventional wisdom exists because AI companies need to sell the dream of effortless intelligence. VCs want to invest in "AI-first" companies. Consultants can charge premium rates for "AI strategy." Everyone has a vested interest in making AI sound like digital genius.

But here's where this approach falls apart in practice: AI doesn't actually make decisions—it recognizes patterns and predicts outcomes based on historical data. When you ask AI to "decide" something, you're really asking it to find patterns in past situations and extrapolate. That works great for repetitive, data-rich scenarios. It fails spectacularly when you need genuine strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, or decisions about unprecedented situations.

The gap between AI marketing and AI reality is enormous. Most businesses implementing "AI-driven decision making" end up with expensive pattern-matching tools that can't handle the nuanced, context-heavy decisions that actually matter for business growth.
