This conventional wisdom exists because NLP can work in specific scenarios. Large enterprises with massive data volumes and dedicated AI teams have seen success. The problem? These success stories don't translate to most businesses.

But here's where this approach falls short in practice: NLP tools often miss the context and nuance that humans pick up instantly. They can tell you that someone mentioned "pricing" in their feedback, but they can't tell you the difference between "your pricing is confusing" and "your pricing is worth every penny" with the reliability you need for business decisions.

The biggest learning? Question the assumption that customer understanding should be automated. Sometimes the "inefficient" approach of human analysis is actually the most efficient path to actionable insights.
