SaaS platforms and AI consultants love this narrative because it sells expensive enterprise solutions. Everyone wants to be the Netflix of their industry, using sophisticated algorithms to predict what customers want before they know it themselves.

But here's where this conventional wisdom falls apart in practice: most businesses don't have the data quality, volume, or consistency needed for accurate predictions. You end up with automation that's worse than human decision-making, models that break when anything changes, and teams that lose trust in the entire system.
