Video is more engaging. Industry experts will tell you that moving images capture attention better than static content. They'll show you engagement metrics proving people watch videos longer than they read text.
Video demonstrates functionality better. Why describe what your product does when you can show it? The logic seems bulletproof - a 30-second walkthrough communicates more than paragraphs of explanation.
Video feels more premium. There's an unspoken assumption that video content signals quality and investment. Static images feel outdated, video feels cutting-edge.
Video boosts social sharing. Marketing teams love pointing out that video content gets shared more on social platforms. The engagement metrics look impressive in reports.
Video improves SEO. Technical SEO guides mention that pages with video content often rank better and have lower bounce rates.
All of this sounds logical. The problem? Logic doesn't always translate to conversions.
What the industry rarely discusses is the hidden cost of video in feature sections. While everyone's focused on engagement metrics, they're missing the bigger picture: does engagement actually lead to signups? And more importantly, are we optimizing for the wrong metrics?
